Persuasion, NO HOMEWORK!

    Dear World,
Homework is the bane of kids. Sometimes kids like school, but homework, never. Kids complain about homework, and as a kid I hate it too., I don't like homework for three reason, more stress, it makes it hard to do extra activities, and finally it sometimes keeps you up all night.

First of all more stress, school is stressful enough, you spend a quarter of you day working, and when you get home you have a lot of stress from you teachers and friends. The schoolwork is enough. You spend 5 hours of your day doing work and learning from the teachers lessons. You have to pay close attention so you can pass your next test. You also get a lot of stress from your friends because of jokes and comments you take seriously. You go through all the school stress and you feel free when you get home. But you get home and you realize you have homework that you have to do. You get home after many hours of work, then you think you can have fun for the rest of the day then you take out your binder and the homework is in there. You moan and complain but you are forced to do it adding to your stress tower. Stress is not good for young kids, and homework leads to stress.Stress is very unhealthy for growing teens and statistics show that 29% of 13-year-old students report spending 2 hours or more on homework daily in the U.S. Isn't that a bit much? More homework means more stress. Stress is not good for kids health, so if a=b and b=c then a=c.   So therefore homework is not good for a kids health.

Moving on it makes kids miss extracurricular activities and prevents them to have fun with their friends.Statistics even show that kids who participated in an extra curricular activity have less stress.   More than once, kids find themselves missing their activities, such as tennis, because homework is preventing them from leaving the house because as their parents always say, academics come first. Also because academics are coming first the kids aren't able to fool around with their friends. Sometimes you have reports or essays due on Monday so you are unable to play with your friends that weekend. Also during the week, as I already pointed out, you miss out on your activities. The outcome of this could be depression and confusion. Depression because you might miss out on the activity you wait for every week. This could put a change in attitude and maybe even affect them during that week greatly effecting them. Next is confusion. If the kid really wants to do there activity they will rearrange their whole schedule confusing them because they don't know when their activities are. Therefore homework could also cause confusion and depression.

Lastly homework's keeps you up all night because it's too hard. One of the answers to that is that teachers often have children covering material at home by themselves that they do not discuss during school time at all.  When you stay up all night it could effect the next days work and also reduces you growth. Sleeping is important for a growing kid. By affecting the next days work it could create a domino effect. It would give him/her a bad attitude towards school and maybe he would pass this attitude to his friends effecting not only him but also his friends. This could lead to bad grades in the future and could greatly hurt society Therefore homework can damage kids and society.

In conclusion homework is bad for kids because it increases stress which is unhealthy because it leads to less sleep which hurts kids growth. Next is that kids miss out on their extracurricular activities which are proven to help kids. Therefore missing those activities could harm them because they don't get to relieve stress and because it could make them depressed. Lastly is that homework is too hard which forces kids to stay up late at night. Which could harm both their attitude and his friends attitude and it would also affect his/her growth. I have given three solid reason for why kids shouldn't have homework. I hope you consider what I have said, and you support me, thank you.

  3. Paul, then do you agree on the fact that when homework is banned, Teachers will be hard-pressed to finish their student's education in time?
If you do, do you have a solution?

    1. Of course more efficient teaching. At school there is a lot of down time so that down time could easily be used to study. Therefore if the teachers were more efficient in what they did they could easily assign no or less homework. Also all the break times. If we had didn't move during passing period, but the teachers did we could save 3-4 minutes per class. That adds up which equals 20 minutes a day plus you can cut lunch time. That's the solution.

    2. Then are you saying that we should exchange recess time for class time? Then you are going against your argument about homework causing stress. Statistics show that recess reduces stress and improves concentration.

    3. Yes Look at GLPS. We have 15 minutes of passing period! It could just be 5 minutes. Equaling a total of 70 minutes more of class time. Also the food periods are very long. If these were cut down a little bit then homework could be much less homework. EAT THAT .우 석 -_-

  5. Asyou gave multiple points to support your argument, I will rebut EVERY SINGLE ONE of them.

You argued that the 15 minutes of recess is wasted so we should decrease it to 5 minutes of recess. However, you did NOT consider one thing. The moving to the golf range. It takes about 15 minutes to get there for me and I'm a fast walker. If you are trying to say that all the students should run to the golf range in 5 minutes, then you are very wrong because not everyone can run so fast for a long period of time. My next rebuttal will come tomorrow as I do not have much time to finish.

    1. Also, homework is better than class time because WE CAN DO HOMEWORK WHENEVER AND WHEREVER WE WANT!!! However, classes are set to a certain time and a certain place. Homework gives us a lot of leniency to do our work. While in class, you have to do your work ONLY when you are in class. Which gives us a VERY limited time to do our work. In conclusion, homework should be used to reduce class time. HA! Take that!

  6. Paul,

You persuasive argument has created discussion which means you wrote a good letter. You supported your arguments with research and defended your position well. Great work!
